Welcome Class of 2021! My name is Chioma Nwasike and I am an international student born and raised on the beautiful island of Bermuda - this statement wouldn't be complete without proudly claiming that I am also half Nigerian. I have always felt that it is important to celebrate our differences and take advantage of opportunities to learn about what makes us unique. After high school, I spent a year in Bolivia as a Rotary Exchange Scholar, and I like to think that I am a decent Spanish speaker 😏. I went on to graduate from Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Canada, and moved to DC last year, literally the day before Freshman orientation.
Medical school on its own is a new journey - and for some of us, it is also involves a new country, a new pace, and a new "family" as well. If you are an international student with any general or specific questions in reference to transitioning from an international country, visa issues, or getting acclimated to this new culture please, please do not hesitate to contact me!
Congratulations and I look forward to meeting you all. Enjoy the rest of your summer. To keep it real, relax and rejuvenate yourself so that you are ready for both the challenges and rewards that this journey will bring.
