Hello class of 2021 and welcome to HUCM! My name is Gretter Diaz and I will be one of your head liaisons as you transition to medical school. I was born in Havana, Cuba and grew up in Miami, Florida. I attended University of Florida where I completed my undergraduate degree in Cognitive and Behavioral Sciences in 2013. I then proceeded to complete a Master’s degree in medical sciences at the University of South Florida in 2014. The decision to attend medical school was one I made many years ago but it was much tougher for that dream to become reality as many of you will know. I applied to medical school as a non-traditional applicant and I am very grateful towards Howard COM to have accepted me and allowed me to begin my career as a physician. During my first year of medical school, I have learned an incredible amount ofinformation—75% medical, 25% how to deal with life. I believe that it is important to easily adapt and maintain your spirits during your years of medical training and I will be here to help you do so! In my spare time, I enjoy spending the day at the movies, working out, and reading-- In fact, I started a book club for our class. Apart from this book club, I am involved in LMSA (Latin Medical Student Association) and various interest groups including OB/GYN and Surgery. Lastly, I have been fortunate enough to continue doing research by teaming with a professor and performing fetal dissections in order to establish embryological muscular formations. The best thing about Howard COM is the family aspect—there isn’t a day where you walk down the hall and everyone says good morning or asks you how you are. Everyone is truly invested in each other and we celebrate our successes as well as support our downfalls together. As a class, 2020 will extend the same familial feeling and we look forward to having you. Please feel free to stop me in the halls or message me anytime you need me, I am excited to help you in all that I can!
