My name is Candice Passerella, and I am originally from the Chicago area. I graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in May 2004 with a B.S. in English and a minor in Spanish. I then trained and served as a Naval Flight Officer in the U.S. Navy from 2004-2013. I spent most of that time either training in Pensacola, FL or based out of Whidbey Island, WA, where I became qualified as an EA-6B Prowler Mission Commander. I deployed once to Iraq and 3 times to Afghanistan flying combat missions as a navigator and weapons system operator. I was also deployed to Bogotá, Colombia as Naval Affairs Officer in a diplomatic role. I then joined the Naval Reserves for 3 years and completed my post-baccalaureate pre-medical courses at University of North Carolina, Wilmington, where I also participated in research and locally served as a hospice care center volunteer. I am currently on a Navy HPSP scholarship which will allow me to return to active duty as a navy physician. My past extracurriculars have included handbell choirs, musical theater, marathons, and youth public speaking. I am married to Major Christopher A. Passerella, U.S. Marine Corps. We currently reside in Alexandria, VA with our 1-year-old daughter Violeta.
