Welcome Class of 2021! My name is Adebusola "Bussy" Awosanya. I am a 24 year old rising second year of Nigerian descent from PG County, Maryland. I received my Bachelor's of Science degree in Biology of Global Health from Georgetown University in 2015. I went on to participate in the GeorgeSquared program at Georgetown & George Mason Universities where I received a Graduate Certificate in Advanced Biomedical Sciences in 2016.
My first encounter with the Howard University College of Medicine came during the summer of my freshmen year in 2012 as a member of the Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (SMDEP, #HeyCamila #HUSMDEP). HUCM showed me early in my pursuit towards a medical career a collaborative learning environment filled with students, staff, faculty, and administration all actively contributing to your growth and success. Additionally, doctors at the hospital were welcoming and ready to cater to my interests in medicine. Currently, I serve on the 2020 executive board as one of the VP of Activities (aka the Litty Committee!) and the Student National Medical Association executive board as the Minority Association of Pre-Health Students Co-Coordinator.
As a DMV native, I am able to assist you in everything from finding housing to figuring out the Metro to recommending great places for brunch, the turn up, and/or a mix of both to navigating the museums and other popular spots to much much more! Believe me when I say, you'll love what HUCM and DC has to offer! At the same time, I very seriously value academic excellence and will work hard to ensure that the resources afforded to us at HUCM reach the class of 2021.
To conclude, a great philosopher once said, "If a man does not have the sauce, then he is lost. But the same man can be lost in the sauce" (Sir Gucci Mane La Flare). Medical school is about finding balance and finding yourself without getting lost in the midst of these pursuits. Enjoy the summer and be ready to enter HUCM in July (yes, we start mid-July) with an open mind.
